According to a study released by IPSOS this year, an average of three-quarters of adults world-wide agree that single-use plastic should be banned as soon as possible. On average, 88% believe that it is essential, very important or fairly important to have an international treaty to combat plastic pollution. The online study was conducted in the third quarter of 2021 among 20,513 adults across 28 countries.

The desire for manufacturers to become more sustainable and ecofriendly with their products is turning into a NEED. As consumers all around the world become more educated on plastic pollution, they are seeking out companies who show an active initiative to combat this growing issue.

By the end of next year, customers in the United States and Canada should be able to use their reusable cups at Starbucks in-store, drive-thru, and for mobile orders. The company stated in a press release, "Our goal, by 2025, is to create a cultural movement towards reusables by giving customers easy access to a personal or Starbucks-provided reusable to-go cup for every visit, making it convenient and delightful to reuse wherever customers are enjoying their Starbucks Experience."

Although this concept is not something new, especially in the drink and food service industry, it is certainly the largest initiative of its kind. Especially when you take into account Starbuck's goal in scope, scale, and timeline to completely get rid of single-use drinkware within three years.
